Jade Emperor Abalone Eating Contest 2011

Jade Emperor Abalone Eating Contest is the first competitive eating contest in  year 2011 that was held from 8 January 2011 to 9 January 2011. This fabulous event was organised by food distributer Shiro Corporation. Media coverage was excellent as it was covered by the major TV channels and newspapers.

The preliminary rounds were held on 8 January 2011. The winner of the preliminary rounds will enter the finals. There is a total of 16 preliminary rounds. During the preliminary round, the contestants will have to eat an abalone of 200grams (20 slices). Only chopsticks is to be used to pick up an abalone slice at one time. Mr Loh Boon Pin recorded the best timing for the preliminary rounds.

The finals was held on 9 January 2011. This time, the abalone is much bigger (250grams) and the abalone is cut into 32 slices. The winner is Kent Phoa aka ‘Blackhole’ (myself). The timing is 1min 21 secs.

The Jade Emperor abalone was soft, tender and tasty also helps me to eat faster! Let’s hope there will be another Jade Emperor Abalone Eating Contest in year 2012.
